Current Job Opening Peer Specialist - Adult Homes
Position Summary
The Peer Specialist provides practical help and mentoring, advocacy,
coordination, job development, side-by-side individualized support,
problem solving and direct assistance to help consumers identify and
secure the supports necessary to maintain a successful adjustment to
community life. The Peer Specialist is or has been a recipient of mental
health services. Because of their life experience with mental illness and
mental health services, the peer specialists provide expertise that
professional training cannot replicate. The Peer Specialist is a fully
integrated member of the Adult Home Case Management Services team. The
Peer Specialist provides highly individualized services in the community
and promotes consumer self-determination and decision-making. The Peer
specialists also provide essential expertise and consultation to the
entire team to promote a culture in which each consumer's point of view
and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into
treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities. The Peer
Specialist should be familiar with all the established policies and
procedures of MHA.
Hours of Work
The Peer Specialist normally works 17.5 hours per week; actual hours
and schedule to be determined by program needs
Specific Duties
1.
Be
a member of an individual support team for a number of
consumers.
2.
Provide wellness management
services to the residents of Crestview Manor either through individual or
group instruction
3.
Facilitate or co-facilitate
groups on recovery
4.
Consult with community
agencies and organizations, including consumer run programs such as
self-help groups and consumer drop-in centers. Facilitate consumer
participation in consumer self-help programs and activities.
5.
Document consumer progress to
maintain a permanent record of consumer activity according to the agency's
established methods and procedures.
6.
Participate in staff
organizational meetings and case review meetings.
7.
Participate in the provision
of rehabilitation services.
8.
Provide community-related
supportive services, such as assistance securing necessary clothing and
grooming supplies, wake-up calls, transportation.
9.
Assist and support consumers
in managing their entitlements
10.
Teach money-management skills
(budgeting and paying bills) and assist consumers in accessing financial
services such as bank checking and savings accounts.
11.
Provide cultural and
recreational supports
12.
All other related
duties
Qualifications
The
Peer specialist may have a college degree in a human services field, or
college degree in another area, or have a high school diploma. The peer
specialist should have paid or volunteer experience with adults with
severe and persistent mental illnesses. Peer specialists will have the
self-knowledge to manage their mental illness and be well along in their
recovery. They will have the skills and competence to establish supportive
trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental
illnesses. Must have valid
driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Must meet MHA guidelines to drive
agency vehicles. Computer and Internet literate. Candidates must consent
to Fingerprinting and a Criminal History Information Records search.
Reporting Relationship
The Peer
Specialist reports directly to the Adult Home Case Management
Coordinator.
