Family Support Services (FSS)

MHA offers services to support families whose child has been diagnosed with a serious emotional disturbance or identified as having special needs.

FSS are available to families whose children receive services through MHA’s Clinic and Case Management Programs. FSS support self-determination, and families’ advocacy efforts on behalf of their children.

Services

FSS are for families who have a child enrolled in programs at MHA and are seeking assistance to access services, advocate for their child’s rights, or support in caring for their child.

FSS includes one-to-one support, family support groups and peer contact, advocacy, respite, skill building and parent education. Services are offered by a Family Support Specialist who may provide the advocacy directly or connect families to other social services providers who will arrange for the provision of such services. Staff are knowledgeable about Children’s Mental Health Service System, schools, Committee on Special Education, Committee on Preschool Special Education, Department of Health’s Early Intervention Services, Office of Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities services in addition to specific programs available for special populations.
