Family Support Services (FSS)Family Support Services provide both advocacy and direct services to families of seriously emotionally disturbed and special needs children enrolled in MHA’s Treatment, Partnership or Children’s Case Management Services programs. Family Support Services are an array of formal and informal services with an emphasis on self-determination and family control. The Family Support Specialist makes connections with families identified from MHA programs as needing assistance and guidance in support and self-advocacy. What We DeliverThe Family Support Program may include but is not limited to: One-to-One contacts, family support groups and peer contact, advocacy, respite, skill building and parent education. The Family Support Specialist may provide the advocacy directly or connect families to other social services providers who will arrange for the provision of such services. Family Ties of Westchester whose website is http://www.familytieswestchester.org leads the county in supporting families of children with social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. WhenOur Family Support Specialist is available for telephone consultation or direct contacts Monday through Friday. A flexible schedule is available to meet the needs of family members. Languages SpokenServices are available in English. CostThere is no cost to a family who meets the eligibility requirements for enrollment in MHA clinical, Partnership or Children’s Case Management Services programs. Staff/Service ProvidersA parent of special needs children staffs our Family Support Service. Staff is knowledgeable about
Children’s Mental Health Service System, schools, Committee on Special Education/ Committee on
Preschool Special Education, Department of Health’s Early Intervention Services, Office of Mental
Retardation and Development Disabilities services in addition to specific programs available for special
populations.
