Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

November 2 & 3, 2016 | 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is for everyone, regardless of prior experience or background, who wants to learn to provide suicide first aid. Used world-wide, ASIST teaches effective intervention skills to establish “safety-for-now” and connections to longer term supports. During the two-day interactive workshop, participants learn to intervene and help prevent the immediate risk of suicide.  Attendees must commit to attending the entire workshop.

If you have experienced a recent loss to suicide (typically within the past 6 months) please consider whether this is the right time for you to attend this training.  ASIST may be challenging for someone who has experienced a recent loss. As ASIST is repeated throughout the year, there will be future opportunities to attend. ASIST is open to community members over the age of 18.

Course fee: $75 (ASIST training is supported by NYS)
12 NYS SW CE hours available. Administrative fee: $15

safeTALK - Suicide Awareness for Everyone

November 9, 2016 | 1:00 to 4:00 pm

Thoughts of suicide are common – more than  9 million American adults acknowledged having thoughts of suicide when asked that question in 2014. Recognizing and acknowledging risk of suicide is a powerful beginning to help save a life.

safeTALK is a 3 hour training that teaches people not to “miss, dismiss, or avoid” signs of suicidal thinking, effective ways to start the conversation, and provides information to help connect individuals at risk to useful supports and services.

safeTALK is designed for all community members, as any of us in our personal or professional lives may have friends, family members, colleagues, or people with whom we work who are at risk.

safeTALK is not recommended for individuals who have completed ASIST training.

Course fee: $10 (safeTALK training is supported by NYS)
3 NYS SW CE hours available. Administrative fee: $15
