Join our Team! We have an exciting new opportunity for a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in our Rockland County clinic in Nyack, NY. Base Annual Salary Range: $88,000 to $200,000.
SUMMARY of DUTIES
MHA clinics operate under a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model, blending Mental health, Substance Use Disorders and Physical Health into a comprehensive treatment plan. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is the expert on the team for the coordination of needed services related to chronic medical conditions, screening and monitoring clients for gaps in preventive services and physical health conditions related to behavioral health treatment or common physical co-morbidities. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides screening and monitoring of key health indicators and health risk, as well as clinical monitoring for adverse effects of medications, including monitoring for metabolic syndrome. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will coordinate completion of required steps for initiation of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will serve as a consultant to other team members and may take over some of the work needed to adequately coordinate care if the management of a particular medical condition becomes complex. The Nurse will support recovery by providing services that reflect our deeply held values that include the recognition of individual rights of self-determination, choice, shared decision-making and collaboration. When possible, the Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will utilize evidence-based practices and always embracing a trauma-informed and person-centered approach.
SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works in conjunction with the team collaborating regarding implementation of the medical aspects of the model, working with all clients with a focus on conducting psychiatric assessments, including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, and conduct a mental status examination.
2. Prescribe psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects, including education of clients regarding psychotropic medications.
3. Conduct metabolic monitoring (tracking blood pressure, weight, and body mass index) for clients.
4. Obtaining and ensuring processing of lab work and lab results, incorporating into electronic health record.
5. Administering depot injections to clients as needed.
6. Working with clients and families to collaboratively address medication questions or concerns.
7. Coordinating care for medical issues, including providing referrals to community medical providers, scheduling appointments, and coordination of client’s medical care.
8. Conducting initial and quarterly health screenings.
9. Providing health and wellness counseling and education.
10. Attend daily team huddles for case review and team collaboration.
11. Providing psychoeducation to promote health and wellness, health care coordination, nutrition/exercise, smoking cessation, substance abuse, or sexual health or resources at least once within 12 months of their admission.
12. Attend all clinic and agency trainings as required.
13. Follow the established policies & procedures.
14. Maintain appropriate professional standards.
15. Other related duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
1. Principles, practices and methods of community mental health treatment including interviewing, assessment, marriage, family, child, and group counseling and crisis intervention.
2. Adult and/or child psychology, including development and psychopathology.
3. Applicable city, state and federal guidelines and laws affecting mental health treatment, services and reporting procedures.
4. Community mental health resources and services and other health, financial, social, recreational cultural, housing and legal advocacy services.
5. Familiarity with and ability to use an Electronic Health Record system.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. The candidate must be a NYS Licensed Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. The license must be in current and remain in good standing with the licensing board.
2. The candidate must exhibit patience, flexibility, compassion and a deep belief in recovery.
3. Training or experience working with individuals with serious mental health conditions, experience in community-based mental health services and experience with a team approach are required.
4. Basic computer knowledge is required.
5. Must comply with the standards and requirements of all applicable federal, state, local and other laws, rules and regulations governing medical services.
6. Must comply with all professional standards and all applicable agency policies and procedures, including the agency’s compliance program and code of conduct.
7. Demonstrates knowledge and support of agency’s safety and ethical policies, practices and reports unsafe environments/practices to supervisor in a timely manner.
8. Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA Privacy Standards and related agency policies.
9. Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
10. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner must be cleared NYS Justice Center through fingerprinting for a Criminal History Records search.
11. Must be and maintain clearance by the DCJS New York State Sex Offender Registry.
12. Must be and maintain clearance by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and the New York State Medicaid Exclusion List.
13. Must be and maintain clearance by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for instances of child abuse and/or neglect.
14. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
