Life After Suicide: A Community Conversation with Dr. Jennifer Ashton
Community Conversation 2019

On Thursday, September 26th, we welcomed ABC News Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton to the stage of the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center for a powerful Community Conversation about hope and healing following loss to suicide.

MHA Board Member and mental health advocate Sean A. Mayer, who lost his brother Ryan to suicide in 2014, joined Dr. Ashton for the intimate discussion about the impact suicide can have on family, friends and the wider community.

In her new book, Life After Suicide: Finding Courage, Comfort & Community After Unthinkable Loss, Dr. Ashton shares her family's journey following personal loss, as well as the stories of others across the country.

"Some days, I think 'I'm not going to be the same again; I'm never going to be okay,'" shared Dr. Ashton as she spoke about the concept of post-traumatic growth last night. "Then I realize, of course I'm never going to be the same again, but I am okay."
